Design sheets behind the builds
We start with your vision: how the space will be used, the styles you love, and the budget you’re working with. Then we develop a preliminary design in 3D modelling software and refine the concept with you until it’s right.
Once the design is complete, prefabrication begins in our shop. Each component is carefully selected, laid out, cut, and finished, with a variety of species and finishes for you to choose from.
The prefabricated components ship to your site, ready for installation. Our crew raises the frame with the help of a crane. All joinery is secured with traditional wooden fasteners, for strength and for the classic look of traditional timber work.
We offer SIP installation to close in your log or timber home. SIPs install efficiently and create a tightly sealed, highly insulated building with outstanding energy performance. When our work is complete, your structure is ready for windows, doors, and finishes.
“Great team to work with. Very flexible and accommodating. They did a wonderful job on my timberframe roof.”
“We’re delighted with the results. For the level of craftsmanship, materials, and design, the value for money was outstanding.”
“We found a patient, friendly, customer oriented person who genuinely shared our passion for our build. I would highly recommend.”

When you call Mufferaw, you talk directly to the team behind the work. Every frame we cut, raise, and finish has to meet our own exacting standards.
We’re located outside of Ottawa and proud to serve all of Ontario, offering a variety of species and finish options. On every project, we prioritize the same three things: quality, craftsmanship, and service.

Early collaboration with timber frame specialists develops more stylized, and buildable, designs. Details make or break a project, and expert timber frame insight from the concept phase keeps your design on track from the start.
We work with your architect to resolve every timber frame detail during the design phase, eliminating surprises in the field and delivering smoother construction with fewer headaches.
We are located in the Ottawa area and are proud to serve all of Ontario. Because the more time-consuming work is done in the shop, our crew of experienced timber framers can travel to your site for an efficient installation.
Our most commonly used species are Eastern White Pine and Douglas Fir. If you have a specific species in mind, let us know. We are able to access a variety of species.
A lot of timber framers prefer to work from architectural plans provided by the client, but we love being involved from the very beginning. It lets us work with your architect or designer to develop a well thought out frame, focusing on the details that make the difference, right from the start.
Typical scope includes design, engineering, prefabrication, and installation of the timber frame or log building. Depending on the project, it can also include roof build up (not including roofing finish) and the building envelope (SIPs).
SIPs (structural insulated panels) are an excellent way to close in a timber frame:
We work with engineers who specialize in heavy timber construction and traditional joinery. If your project requires an engineer, it is covered, without compromising any of the traditional details that make a timber frame a timber frame.
